I am a newbie to ham radio (yep, I'll admit it... like you wouldn't figure it out right away by my question anyway). I see that the frequency on the Venice repeater is 145.130. However, the band plan shows that as in the 145.100 - 145.200 range for Linear Translator Outputs.

What is a Linear Translator Output and can I use this repeater for my 2 Meter HT? Each time I key up I get several tones so I quit until I find out what is going on and if I am allowed to use this one or not. Since I am in Nokomis it is the closest 2 M repeater to me.

You are correct, the SERC Laurel repater freq. is 145.130 no PL tone. The freq offset is 0.600, and that may answer your question.

As for access... as long as you are licensed by the FCC you are ok to access the repeater. The repeater has excellent coverage and I would encourage you to utilize the site as much as you would like. I would also welcome you to come to one of the club meeting and meet some great operator that may be able to help answer some of your questions. Sorry for the delay in responding back. Good luck!
